Quote of the Day, 11/11/06: Guests

Phew! I had a small brunch here today. It was the first time I'd entertained since I moved in, and it was quite a challenge getting the house ready and the food pulled together.

Yesterday was "hide-it" day, when I realized it was perfectly logical to put the tool box, my picture-hanging supplies and some random sheets of sandpaper in the cabinet under the TV (and I noticed I'd already hidden the phone book under there). The fun thing about "hide-it" cleaning is how many things I lose track of completely, and end up having to replace. But as long as my guests don't open any cabinets, they're none the wiser.

Brunch itself turned out good. I scrounged up a delightfully easy recipe for a breakfast-bake (a mix of eggs, milk, cheese and cooked bacon, on top of upside-down buttered bread cubes, bake 350 for an hour... so now you know), a more challenging but yummy recipe for praline apple french toast, and Adrienne's fabulous recipe for chocolate chip pumpkin muffins which you can find at What Adrienne Thinks About That.

Anyway, it was nice to have guests again. My house is so much happier when people visit it. And so, a few quotes about guests....
Kahlil Gibran
If it were not for guests all houses would be graves.

Eleanor Roosevelt
The only advantage of not being too good a housekeeper is that your guests are so pleased to feel how very much better they are.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge
The guests are met, the feast is set.
May'st hear the merry din.
