Tanga Puzzles: January 1 - January 7

The guest-puzzles have begun!

Here are the daily clues for the Tanga puzzles this week. To see the hint, highlight the space to the right of the date.

I don't give away answers here, just a small hint each day to help get you started or past a rough patch. If you want stronger hints, you can check the blog on the Tanga site itself, which is chock full of spoilers.

While I avoid giving away the answers on this page, be warned that there may be spoilers in the comments to this post, so open those with care.

Good luck!

January 1: Tough start to the week. There are 11 numbers at the bottom, but you know you'll only need 8. So the question is, what to do with the other three....

January 2: If you find a character from Shakespeare, try to put him in a larger context. Then you'll be on a good path.

January 3: Whatever you do, don't read the tanga blog unless you want the answer handed to you on a platter. Though I will quote the funniest clue from that blog in the comments here, just so you don't miss it. My clue is this: When there's a "middle seat" that usually means there are three seats.

January 4: Once you do the sudoku part (you can use an online solver for a shortcut), you'll need to convert the numbers to letters. But which letters of the alphabet should you pick?

January 5: This puzzle would be just as solvable with red and black checkers instead of white and black chess pieces. Ignore the black and focus on the white here. You need an 8-letter word for the answer.

January 6: The word in place of East is NEW. That word should get you someplace, but don't ignore the other three words.

January 7: Smile! You should get through tonight's puzzle like a hot knife through butter.

This was my favorite entry from Wednesday night's blog (from Gary L)

Ok I did it the hard way. Here's a ton of salt:

figure out from angramming the entire text what major airline they're referring to. Then on that airline's website, order a ticket (first class), to travel through each of the cities, beginning in orlando and ending in toronto. Took me a couple tries to figure out which date to use for the flights, but it's the 1-year anniversary of the date Tanga.com premiered. Add up the costs of all the tickets (excluding taxes), then convert that dollar amount to Roman Numerals. Take every third numeral, and that forms the word that's the answer.

That was a cool puzzle.
