Hello, my name is Nancy, and I'm hopelessly behind on my children's book reading.
It all started when I got hooked on late-19th and early-20th century American girls books. I read every one I could find, and when I realized that I'd pretty much run out, I started rereading. And rereading. I couldn't break away. I found it nearly impossible to try something new.
For a long time, I kept it a secret. I would politely sit silent while my friends talked about Narnia, His Dark Materials, Lord of the Rings, and (I am ashamed to admit) Bridge to Terabithia.
Then one day it happened. I read the Narnia series (late last year). I read Bridge to Terabithia (today!). I started putting the pieces of my broken reading world back together. I still have many missed books to catch up on, but I know I can do it.... One book at a time.
Are there any books you hear people talk about all the time that you haven't gotten around to reading yet?

Dozens ! If not hundreds !
Just one example. Kelly sent me The Book Thief last year. Still not read it ! I feel terribly guilty but (a) the Cybils took over my reading life for 2 months, (b) Doctor Who took over ALL my life for 2 months and (c) I've started *writing* fiction and until I get the darned story/ies out of my head, I'm doomed to lag behind...
Someone lend me a Time Turner PLEASE !
LOTR
Old Yeller
Where the Red Fern Grows
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Catcher in the Rye
I guess I was too busy reading Shakespeare and novels that were popular at the time.
I simply haven't been able to get around to the Bartimaeus Trilogy, despite actually having copies of 2 of the 3 titles. I have plenty of other things in my to read stack that I've pre-empted for one reason or another, too...
Bridge to Terabithia
Eragon (my friends keep bugging me on this one...)
His Dark Materials
Of all of the above, I want to read Bridge to Terabithia the most. :)
Michele, Book Thief is still new enough that I think you get a pass on that for a while yet.
Lady S, I've read Catcher in the Rye, but none of the others. Sigh....
Jen, I'm in the same boat with The Bartimaeus trilogy, though I've made a few attempts at the first book.
Erin, Eragon also on my shelf unread. Along with Eldest. Sigh....
I didn't think much of Eragon - not enough to read Eldest anyway. Have read Catcher more than once. Haven't read Old Yeller, Where the Red Fern Grows or A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, but then I'm not sure of their availability over here... Bartimaeus is brilliant, but obviously not to everyone's taste! HDM and LotR ditto !!
Not read Bridge either - would you girls stop making me feel guilty, please ! *grins*
I just bought my mother the audio of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and even though I have owned the paperback for years I've never read it, so I may borrow the audio to listen to in the car. One of the advantages to my new long commute is that I can catch up on my reading!
Gotta admit, I have not read Bridge either. I want to before I see the movie. Have not got around to Inkspell either. Then there are all the books I've read that I have not reviewed yet. hoo boy.

That made me grin. :D You're not the only one!
