Quote of the Day, 10/18/06: Old Friends

Yes, well, it's my 20th high-school reunion this year, an event that I've looked forward to... well... not at all really.

But suddenly there are plans afoot to have a second, informal get-together with a small group of us who hung around together throughout high school. We were the yearbook crew, the school newspaper editors and reporters, the drama society, and the honor society. We were cheerleaders, soccer players, and even -- though it pains me to admit it now -- mathletes. Some of us were friends from junior high, some friends from grammar school. We were cafeteria buddies, Junior Achievement pals, and friends who just liked to catch a movie or stay out late at Denny's on a Saturday night.

Okay, now I'm excited.

Quotes for today are about old friends.

Robert Southey
No distance of place or lapse of time can lessen the friendship of those who are thoroughly persuaded of each other's worth.

Richard Bach
Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends.

Virginia Woolf
Some people go to priests; others to poetry; I to my friends.
