Quote of the Day, 10/20/06: Parody

To go along with today's poetry, here are a few quotes about parody.

Ernest Hemingway
The parody is the last refuge of the frustrated writer. Parodies are what you write when you are associate editor of the Harvard Lampoon. The greater the work of literature, the easier the parody. The step up from writing parodies is writing on the wall above the urinal.

George Eliot
There is hardly any mental misery worse than that of having our own serious phrases, our own rooted beliefs, caricatured by a charlatan or a hireling.

Bernard Berenson
You can parody and make fun of almost anything, but that does not turn the universe into a caricature.
